About Janet

After immigrating to the US,  I found home in the scrappy, purposeful, and community-centered Community Empowerment Fund and Marian Cheek Jackson Center for Saving and Making History, where I spent over a decade in non-profit leadership.

These communities taught me so much about relationship, reciprocity, disrupting systemic inequities, thinking abundantly, strategizing emergently, and fearlessly building new things.

They also taught me that robust operations and technology can make nonprofit work smoother and happier.

What else do I get up to?

As Team Manager at Third Space Studio, I help produce key deliverables, manage our online tools for content and marketing, and serve as our in-house technology expert. Third Space Studio is also a nonprofit consulting firm that helps nonprofits articulate and implement bold strategy and action.

I like to garden, paddle, hike with my dog Bjorn, and have a special love for manatees and good sci-fi/fantasy.

... So what's with the frogfish?

Here’s why they make a fantastic champion for nonprofit operations & infrastructure:

  1. Frogfish evolved legs. Like many grassroots organizations, they have adapted adroitly to their high-pressure environment!
  2. They live on the ocean floor. Like our back-end operations, the less-visible bottom layers of the ocean hold the nutrients that enable life at the more-visible surface.
  3. Plus, Frogfish are weird, colorful, and fully themselves!
